Peter, a lifelong New York City region resident, now lives full time on San Juan Island, helping to run Outdoor Odysseys. Peter has a long and storied career in government, tourism, and in corporate America. Peter has a graduate certificate in Environmental Sustainability from Columbia University and a Bachelors Degree in Business Management from Adelphi University. He’s traveled to over 300 cities in 47 countries across 6 continents, immersing himself in global culture and experiencing some of the top destinations and excursions in the world. When Peter isn’t managing operations and sales for Outdoor Odysseys, he can be found indulging in Sci-Fi/Fantasy content, reading in a coffee shop, wandering around a nearby town or city, on the slopes, or marveling at some spectacular eco system.
Most amazing outdoor and/or wildlife experience you’ve ever had?
That’s a tough one and I probably have to say it’s a three way tie between trekking to see the mountain gorillas in Uganda, swimming with a group of 100+ year old sea turtles in the Galapagos, and black water rafting in the glowworm caves on New Zealand’s north island. What I loved about these experiences is that the operators I worked with, much like Outdoor Odysseys, were really focused on species conservation and habitat protection. I think tourism can be really beneficial to saving the planet in a number of ways, if done correctly.
What’s your favorite travel destination?
Well, I decided to move to it: San Juan Island. But I’m a very happy person when I’m in Provincetown, Massachusetts or somewhere in the Mediterranean. I can never get enough old world culture, art, architecture and food. But at the same time, put me in an old grown forest or on a beautiful PNW coastline and you might as well just call that heaven.
